ASSIGNMENT #1



PRESENTATION OF YOUR MATERIALS IS VERY IMPORTANT!  BE CREATIVE … THINK OF SOMETHING DIFFERENT!
  1. What is a LOGO?
Find a definition … at least 2 different sources would be good (ie. Dictionary, Book or Internet)

  1. What are the 3 "types" of logos? DEFINIE THEM & PROVIDE EXAMPLES
           three types of logos are iconic, text logo ,combination
  1. What are at least 5 mistakes that you should avoid when designing logos?  EXPLAIN EACH ONE … or give an example.
           drawing your logo yourself, forgetting about Ur customer, looking to much like your competitors, thinking colors and fonts don't matter, communicating to much with your logo

4. Find a logo you like from each of the following industries:


Fast Food Restaurant Shoes Clothes

Sports Team Favorite Chocolate Bar Favorite Bag of Chips

Favorite Soft Drink Favorite Bottled Water Oil or Gas Company

Real Estate Company Favorite Car Manufacturer Computer Company

Cut and paste the logo in a Word Document.  Explain in 1 or more sentences why you choose this logo – what about the logo catches your eye.  How does this logo represent their product or service to you.  Is there anything about the logo that tells you who their consumer or target audience might be.

5. Pick 1 of your favorite logos … find them being used in at least 3 different ways, such as a Newspaper Ad, Magazine Ad, piece of clothing, napkin, coffee cup, etc.  ITEMS FOUND ON THE INTERNET WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
Answer the following questions about each set of your Logos:
  1. What do you like about this particular logo - what made you choose this one? (1 mark)
  2. Where did you find the logo - list your source - name of the newspaper, magazine, internet address, etc. (1 mark)
  3. List 1 principle of design that applies to this logo.  (2 marks)
  4. How / what part of the logo demonstrates this principle. (2 marks)
  5. List 1 element of design that applies to this logo.  (2 marks)
  6. How / what part of the logo demonstrates this element. (2 marks)
